President Biden made a strong statement of support for VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II project, including a $500 million request in the administration’s budget for FY 2024.
This is the initial funding request toward a Full Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA) that VTA is seeking with the Federal Transit Administration. VTA is seeking up to 49% of the cost of the project which includes four more BART stations and a 6-mile extension from Berryessa/North San Jose, through Downtown San Jose into Santa Clara. VTA will pursue steps to enter the next phase of the federal funding program later this year.
The President's budget request shows the administration’s steadfast support of public transportation infrastructure overall, and of this mobility-changing project in particular.
"VTA is very excited to be included in the president’s budget for next year," said VTA Board Chair Pat Burt. "This demonstrates that the Administration recognizes this project as a top federal transit infrastructure priority."
