How do we come up with the most efficient and affordable ways to travel along Monterey Road in South San Jose?
That’s what we plan to answer in an upcoming community workshop on the Monterey Road Corridor Community-Based Transportation Plan. Your voice matters!
The Monterey Road Corridor Community-Based Transportation Plan (CBTP) is a community-driven investment plan for transportation solutions that reflect the needs, priorities, and values of San Jose’s diverse community. Projects in the final plan may address community concerns such as bicycle and pedestrian connectivity, public transportation amenities, such as new bus shelters, local roads, and street improvements, and the integration of new technologies with transportation.
The CBTP is focused on the stretch of Monterey Road between Alma Avenue, and Blossom Hill Road, which is about 5.8 miles long. The objectives of the CBTP are to:
- Emphasize community participation in prioritizing transportation needs and identifying potential solutions
- Foster collaboration between residents, community-based organizations, VTA, the City of San Jose, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC)
- Prioritize those who are most vulnerable to changes in transportation: youth, seniors, residents with disabilities, and residents living in affordable housing
Projects in the final plan can address important issues, including bicycle and pedestrian connectivity, public transportation amenities, local roads & streets improvement, and integration of technology with transportation.
The final Community-Based Transportation Plan will be an essential tool for supporting VTA, the City of San Jose, and the community to pursue projects when funding becomes available.
