Want to increase your civic engagement this year? Community members have the month of January to contribute their vision to two important long-range transportation planning projects: VTA Visionary Network and Valley Transportation Plan 2050 (VTP 2050).
Input related to the Visionary Network will be used to develop a framework for future transit service plans. It will define how transit service in Santa Clara County should look over the next 30 years, including frequency, hours of service, routes and coverage, and passenger/stations amenities.
The VTP 2050 is the long-range transportation plan for all of Santa Clara County. As the County Transportation Agency (CTA), VTA periodically updates this 25-year plan. While the Visionary Network focuses exclusively on the VTA transit network, the VTP will serve as a policy and planning framework for all modes of travel, including highways, local streets and roads, transit, bicycles, and pedestrian infrastructure.
Community outreach for both projects began last November, with a slate of both virtual and in-person events. Here are just a few of the comments we’ve received from community members so far:
- “I would love to see a few limited trips connect to recreation areas (Castle Rock, Henry Coe, Alum Rock, Joseph Grant).”
- “Buses at less popular hours, even if they're not very busy, ‘de-risk’ taking transit. If I get stuck late at work, can I still get a bus at 8pm, or do I have to do something special after 6pm?”
- “I’d like more transit-oriented development."
- “Islands protect cyclists. Create more of them.”
There is still time to contribute your transportation vision to these planning efforts. Together, we can create a broad, inclusive plan for transportation in our region. Please join us for these upcoming events:
