Traffic Improvements on Calaveras Boulevard Start This Summer
07/23/2024

VTA is putting 2016 Measure B funds to work to help relieve traffic congestion at a busy Milpitas intersection.

Beginning in August, working with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the City of Milpitas, VTA engineers will help modify westbound Calaveras Boulevard near State Route (SR) 237.

VTA’s Congestion Management Program helps to create safe and reliable travel on highways and expressways by working with local jurisdictions and Caltrans to identify speed reduction and efficient strategies to manage congestion in Santa Clara County.

Minor improvements in the area include:

Calaveras on-ramp

  • Widen to add HOV lane to the westbound SR 237 on-ramp from Calaveras Blvd. The ramp currently has 2 lanes. A 3rd lane would be added.
  • Install new ramp metering signal to accommodate the 3 lanes.
  • Striping and signing as needed.

McCarthy on-ramp

  • Extending HOV lane at the westbound SR 237 on-ramp from McCarthy Blvd.
  • Signing and striping as needed.

Construction activities are expected to be mostly during the day with possible night work. Commuters can expect traffic control measures.
