If you have driven, walked, or biked along Blossom Hill Road and over the interchange at US 101, you’ve likely noticed some significant improvements. Those include improved off and on ramps to US 101, additional travel lanes over the Blossom Hill bridge and an overall safer travel experience for pedestrians and cyclists.

This $35 million improvement is the first collaboration between VTA, the City of San Jose and Caltrans project to be completed with 2016 Measure B funds. Improvements include a new bridge over Highway 101 with an extra vehicle lane in each direction, and a new, protected overcrossing for a safe and continuous route specifically for bicyclists and pedestrians. That separated path connects the existing Xander’s Crossing west of the freeway with the heavily traveled Coyote Creek Trail to the east.

VTA, State, local elected officials, and the local community celebrated the completion of the US 101/Blossom Hill Road Interchange Improvement project with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Coyote Creek Trail entrance off Blossom Hill Road.

The project includes a new overcrossing bridge above the northbound US 101/Blossom Hill Road on-ramp, a new undercrossing path below the southbound US 101/Blossom Hill Road on-ramp, new traffic signals, and a realigned connector ramp from Monterey Road to eastbound Blossom Hill Road.

VTA, San Jose and Caltrans are continuing to work together on final project finishes such as landscaping, and other project-related aesthetics through early 2023.
