On April 1, fare collection will resume for buses, light rail and paratransit. With the number of COVID-19 cases declining and vaccinations increasing, along with continued safeguards already in place, front-door boarding on buses and fare collection can safely resume. Continued safeguards include limited capacity, social distancing, and of course mask wearing. Permanent operator partitions are being installed on VTA buses to replace the temporary barriers. 

VTA will still offer free fares to people who are traveling to or from a vaccination site or other vaccination appointment. We are asking customers to show their appointment slip or vaccination card when they board to ride to a vaccination location.

On March 15, transit workers became eligible for the vaccine following strong advocacy across the state, including from VTA and its four labor unions. Santa Clara County Public Health Officials immediately arranged for vaccination appointments for transit workers, with several hundred completed the first week.

VTA remains committed to providing safe, clean and reliable service for our customers and employees and continues to follow the steps outlined in VTA's 10 Point Plan to Strengthen Trust in Transit. Passengers are still required to wear a face covering while waiting for and on-board transit and our operators will continue to wear personal protective equipment.
