Hostetter Station Transit-Oriented Development

The Hostetter Station site is a 2.3-acre property located on Capitol Avenue, near Hostetter Road in San José, California. This property currently serves as a Park & Ride lot for VTA Light Rail passengers, which is served by VTA’s Orange line.

This land has the potential for mixed-use Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). Projects that are transit-oriented allow people to live and work near public transportation, which helps clear the air, ease traffic, and adds infrastructure investments to the community.

VTA's Transit-Oriented Development Program works with municipal, non-profit, and private partners to encourage the development of housing, retail, and employment centers in places that will help increase transit ridership and contribute to a vibrant community.

Station Access Study

VTA initiated a Station Access Study in February 2025 to analyze multi-modal access and circulation to and from the station and development area.

Community Outreach

VTA delivers outreach to the community in many ways, from email, web page posting like this, signage, tabling at events, presenting at your neighborhood association, and by mail notifications, to name a few. We use multiple approaches to ensure the community is informed and allow for authentic engagement.

Community Meetings

VTA hosted a community open house on February 8, 2025, at Cherrywood Elementary School to introduce VTA’s TOD program and this TOD site, hear your input on local area needs, and gather ideas for how pedestrian and bicyclist access can be improved.

If you missed it, the open house display boards are available to download:
