Drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists will be relieved to see the completion of the US 101/De La Cruz Boulevard/Trimble Road Interchange Improvement project. The ribbon-cutting ceremony held on August 30, 2024, marked the culmination of two years of hard work and collaboration with Caltrans, the Cities of San Jose and Santa Clara, the SJC Airport, the County of Santa Clara Roads, Valley Water District, and the FAA to enhance our county infrastructure.
Enhanced Connectivity and Safety
Before the newly completed revision, the 60-year-old interchange had bicyclists merging and sharing lanes with vehicles, and pedestrians walking across the bridge without a safe buffering between the walkway and the roadway.
The upgraded interchange improves connectivity and safety for commuters and residents alike. Key features of the project include widened, extra lanes, updated signage, and enhanced pedestrian and cyclist accommodations, with a tunnel under the off-ramp and a protected walkway adjacent to the overpass. These improvements not only streamline traffic flow but also prioritize safety, making our roads more accessible and secure for all modes of transportation.
Community Impact
This project provides better access through the City of San Jose to the City of Santa Clara which continues to grow with planned redevelopment projects along El Camino Real. The new bicycle and pedestrian facilities provide enhanced connections to the trail system and upgrade mobility and safety for bicyclists and pedestrians traveling over the highway and by the interchange ramps near the San Jose International Airport.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all stakeholders, including local government officials, contractors, and community members, whose dedication and support made this project a reality.
