VTA and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) have completed a final state and federal environmental document, a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement and Subsequent Environmental Impact Report (SEIS/SEIR), for VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II Extension Project (Project).

It includes responses to comments that were received during the public circulation of the draft document, which was released in December 2016, and design refinements made since then.

The document contains, and environmentally clears, all station location options (east and west options at Downtown San Jose Station and north and south options at Diridon Station) and tunneling methodology options (both single- and twin-bore).

The VTA Board of Directors will consider approving the Project, including the selection of station location and tunneling methodology options, at their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors’ Chambers located at 70 West Hedding Street, San Jose.

The release of the final environmental document is one requirement in the project development phase that VTA must complete by June 2018. Key project development tasks include: clearly defining the project scope; identifying a funding plan which is necessary for the Project to be included in the regional long-range transportation plan; and completing the environmental review process.

Phase II of VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Program consists of four stations and a 5-mile tunnel through downtown San Jose, completing the 16-mile extension into Santa Clara County and providing a vital transit solution to the highly-congested I-880 and I-680 corridors.
